Using Military Training to Succeed as a Culinary Entrepreneur

As a former Culinary Specialist (CS) in the US Coast Guard, I have learned a wealth of skills that have prepared me for success as an entrepreneur. From my time in basic training to my advanced skills training, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience that has helped me to excel in the world of business. In this article, I will share my story and highlight the top five reasons why my military training has been a key factor in my entrepreneurial success.

Starting with my time in basic training, I learned the importance of organization and time management. The days were long and demanding, but I quickly learned how to manage my time and prioritize tasks in order to complete them efficiently. This experience has been invaluable in my entrepreneurial journey, as I have had to manage multiple tasks and projects at once. I have also learned how to be resourceful and creative when it comes to problem-solving, which has come in handy in my business.

My advanced skills training in the Coast Guard gave me a deeper understanding of culinary arts, as well as the opportunity to hone my skills in food preparation and presentation. I was also taught how to work under pressure and to maintain a high level of quality in my work, even when faced with time constraints or unexpected challenges. These skills have been essential in my business, where I have had to handle large orders and deliver high-quality food to my customers.

In addition to my training, I have also been able to leverage my military experience to establish a network of contacts and resources that have helped me to grow my business. From my former classmates to my instructors, I have a network of individuals who are willing to offer their support and advice as I navigate the world of entrepreneurship. This network has been invaluable in helping me to overcome obstacles and find new opportunities for growth.

Here are the top five reasons why my military training has been a key factor in my entrepreneurial success:

  1. Organization and time management
  2. Problem-solving skills
  3. Knowledge of culinary arts and food preparation
  4. Ability to work under pressure
  5. Established network of contacts and resources

As I look back on my time in the Coast Guard and my journey as an entrepreneur, I am grateful for the skills and experiences that I have gained. If you are a former service member looking to start your own business, I would highly recommend signing up with Veterans First Watch. This organization provides valuable resources and support for veterans who are starting their own businesses, and I have found it to be an invaluable resource in my own journey.

And now, I am proud to announce my new business – a catering company that specializes in delivering high-quality food to corporate events, weddings, and other special occasions. With my training and experience as a Culinary Specialist in the Coast Guard, I am confident that my business will be a success and I am excited to see where this journey will take me.
