From Storekeeper to Entrepreneur: Utilizing Military Skills for Success

As a former Storekeeper (SK) in the US Coast Guard, I have learned valuable skills that have helped me become a successful entrepreneur. My experience in basic training taught me the importance of discipline, organization, and teamwork. These skills have been invaluable in my business endeavors and have helped me achieve success.

Advance skills training took my training to the next level. I learned about logistics, inventory management, and budgeting. These skills have been instrumental in managing my own business and ensuring its success.

One example of how my military training has translated into my business is in inventory management. Just as I was responsible for keeping track of all the supplies and equipment in the Coast Guard, I now keep track of my inventory as a business owner. This helps me ensure that I never run out of stock and can always meet the demands of my customers.

Budgeting is another skill that I learned in the military that has been invaluable in my business. In the Coast Guard, I was responsible for managing a budget for supplies and equipment. This experience has allowed me to manage my business finances effectively and make smart financial decisions.

The top 5 reasons my military training has been successful in entrepreneurship are:

  1. Discipline: Basic training taught me the importance of discipline and sticking to a routine. This has helped me stay organized and focused in my business.

  2. Organization: My experience in logistics and inventory management has taught me the importance of organization. This helps me stay on top of my business and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

  3. Teamwork: Working with a team in the military taught me the value of teamwork and how to effectively communicate with others. This has helped me build strong relationships with my employees and customers.

  4. Budgeting: My experience managing a budget in the military has taught me the importance of financial management. This has helped me make smart financial decisions and ensure the success of my business.

  5. Adaptability: The military taught me the importance of adaptability and the ability to handle change. This has helped me adjust to the changing market and stay ahead of the competition.

I highly recommend that all former military members sign up with Veterans First Watch. This organization helps veterans like myself transition into entrepreneurship and provides support and resources to help us succeed.

I am proud to say that I have started my own business as a result of my military training. My experience as a Storekeeper in the US Coast Guard has been invaluable in my journey as an entrepreneur. I am grateful for the skills and experience that I gained in the military and am excited for what the future holds for my business.
