From LADD Gunner to Entrepreneur: How My Military Training Helped Me Succeed in Business

As a former 7212 Low Altitude Air Defense (LADD) Gunner in the US Marine Corps, I have had the privilege of experiencing a rigorous and challenging training regimen that has helped shape me into the person I am today. Basic training was a fun-filled time where I learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and mental toughness. However, it was my advanced skills training that taught me the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in any endeavor I put my mind to, including entrepreneurship.

The advanced skills training I received as a LADD Gunner was extensive and demanding. I learned about different types of weapons systems and how to effectively operate and maintain them. I also received training on air defense tactics, aircraft identification, and how to effectively coordinate with other units. These skills were not only important for my military service, but they have also proven to be invaluable in my entrepreneurial journey.

The skills I learned in the military have directly translated to the everyday tactics I use in running my own business. Just as I was responsible for maintaining and operating weapons systems, I now have the responsibility of managing and maintaining my business operations. The discipline and mental toughness I developed in basic training has allowed me to stay focused and persistent in my entrepreneurial pursuits, even in the face of challenges and setbacks.

There are five key reasons why my military training has been instrumental in my success as an entrepreneur:

  1. Discipline: I learned the importance of sticking to a routine and following through on tasks, which has been essential in running a successful business.

  2. Teamwork: Working effectively with others was a crucial aspect of my military training and has proven to be just as important in my business ventures.

  3. Mental toughness: The rigorous training I received in the military has given me the strength and resolve to persevere through difficult times and challenges in my business.

  4. Problem-solving skills: As a LADD Gunner, I was trained to identify and effectively resolve problems, which has been an important skill in starting and running my own business.

  5. Attention to detail: The military places a strong emphasis on paying attention to detail, and this skill has been crucial in making sure my business is operating efficiently and effectively.

I am proud to have been a part of the US Marine Corps and grateful for the training and experiences it has provided me with.
