From Investigator to Entrepreneur: How My US Coast Guard Skills Propelled My Success

As a former Investigator (IV) in the US Coast Guard, I learned valuable skills that I have taken with me into my entrepreneurial journey. My time in the military was challenging, but also one of the most formative experiences of my life. I will never forget the excitement of basic training and the rigorous advance skills training that followed. Today, I have my own successful business, and I wouldn't be where I am today without the skills I learned in the Coast Guard.

In the military, I was trained in critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail. These skills have served me well as an entrepreneur. As a business owner, I am constantly problem-solving, making decisions, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. My military training has given me the discipline and drive to succeed in this fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned in the military was to work efficiently and effectively. In the Coast Guard, we were taught to make the most of our time and resources. This has translated well into my entrepreneurial journey, where I have learned to prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and stay focused on the big picture.

Another important skill I learned in the military was leadership. In the Coast Guard, I was responsible for leading a team, and this experience has helped me build a successful business. I understand the importance of clear communication, effective delegation, and fostering a positive work environment. These skills have helped me build a strong team and create a company culture that supports growth and success.

Here are my top five reasons why my military training has been essential to my success as an entrepreneur:

  1. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  2. Attention to detail and efficient time management.
  3. Leadership and team-building skills.
  4. Understanding of discipline and drive.
  5. Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

As an entrepreneur, I am proud to have been a part of the US Coast Guard and to have learned valuable skills that have helped me succeed in business.
