From Air Force Nondestructive Inspection to Entrepreneur: Transforming Military Skills into a Successful Business

Joining the US Air Force as a 2A7X2 Nondestructive Inspection was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. From the physical and mental demands of basic training to the advanced technical skills training I received, I learned so much about myself, my work ethic, and my ability to succeed in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

As a Nondestructive Inspection, I was responsible for using various techniques and equipment to examine aircraft structures and components for signs of damage or wear. This was a critical job that required me to have a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to make quick and accurate decisions in the moment.

After leaving the Air Force, I was determined to use the skills I had learned to become an entrepreneur. I started my own business, offering my Nondestructive Inspection services to local aircraft repair and maintenance companies. And, I am proud to say that my business has been a huge success!

So, what were the top 5 skills I received in my job as a Nondestructive Inspection that helped me in becoming an entrepreneur?

  1. Attention to detail: As a Nondestructive Inspection, I had to pay close attention to every detail when examining aircraft structures and components. This same level of attention to detail has proven to be invaluable in running my own business, where I have to be constantly vigilant about quality control, customer satisfaction, and financial management.

  2. Problem-solving skills: My job as a Nondestructive Inspection often required me to identify and solve problems quickly. This same skill has come in handy as an entrepreneur, where I have to make fast decisions about everything from product development to marketing strategy.

  3. Time management: In the Air Force, I had to complete my Nondestructive Inspection tasks within tight deadlines. This taught me how to be extremely efficient and productive with my time. This skill has been critical in running my own business, where I have to balance multiple projects and clients at the same time.

  4. Adaptability: As a Nondestructive Inspection, I had to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. This same level of adaptability has been critical in running my own business, where I have to be prepared to pivot my strategy and approach to stay ahead of the competition.

  5. Communication skills: In the Air Force, I had to communicate complex information to my team, superiors, and clients. This taught me how to be clear, concise, and persuasive when communicating with others. This skill has been critical in running my own business, where I have to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and partners.

In conclusion, taking the skills I learned as a Nondestructive Inspection from the US Air Force and using those skills to become an entrepreneur has been an incredible journey.
